CAPTAIN 2020-2021

Whenever the 2020-2021 season commences, Maesteg Quins have confirmed they are sticking with the skipper who led and kept them in the WRU Championship.

Steve Williams will once more captain the club, his fourth consecutive season of five at the helm since his arrival in 2012.

Since arriving at South Parade Williams has reaped three progressive league titles in the shape of Divisions 3, 2 and the magnificent achievement of conquering Division One, which he lifted on behalf of the club. Then Williams led the team through the testing play-offs against Felinfoel with aplomb.

Leading by example is a huge feature of Williams’ game. His tackling and carrying showing his team the way forward.

While his favoured position is in the back-row, he has often turned out at lock with convincing effect.

Extremely popular, Williams is not just highly respected among his own charges for his wholehearted play and leadership, but opponents rate him highly too.

Players of Steve Williams’ ability and attitude don’t come around too often. Maesteg Quins are delighted he’s their leader.

Coach Dean Ronan was delighted Williams agreed to continue to lead the team adding:

“It’s great that Steve has agreed to lead us. He’s the first name on the team sheet every week. He’s someone I trust immensely on and off the field, the first person you would want on your team whatever the situation. He’s tough, uncompromising and someone who’s growing as a leader. With Steve on our side, we will always have half a chance.

Ronan added, “Several talented players have committed to join the club in 2020-2021. If anyone wishes to enjoy the combined South Parade and WRU Championship experience on a purely amateur basis, please express your interest to the club.

“Maesteg Harlequins RFC welcomes players of all abilities and run a second XV.

We also want to resurrect a Youth team to compliment our happy, thriving junior and mini sections. It’s all about enjoyment but being competitive and successful at the same time,

“If you are interested in enjoying the South Parade experience, contact the club via our website and Facebook page. We look forward to welcoming you.”
