Quins sign Talented Huntley

Maesteg Harlequins RFC are delighted to welcome Brandon Huntley to the club for the forthcoming season.

Brandon has spent the last three seasons at Cardiff Metropolitan while undertaking his studies. Now he has returned to his home borough, Huntley fancied the challenge of Championship rugby and joined Maesteg Quins.

Expected to add real quality to the back-line, Brandon is no stranger to head coach Dean Ronan who has known Huntley for a considerable time. Ronan spoke glowingly of the burgeoning rugby talent:

“I’ve been a huge admirer of Brandon. For all his obvious qualities on the field more importantly - he’s a great guy off it. He’s a young man with a very mature head on his shoulders. Despite his youth, Brandon is a leader.

If proof is required of his playing ability and quality of character, when Huntley attended Bridgend College he was the recipient of the Gareth Nicholas Award. The award is presented to the player who exhibits their rugby prowess, plus shows extraordinary values when training and the way they conduct themselves.

Ronan continued:

“I am all too aware it will only be a matter of time before Brandon is picked up by another club to play at a higher level. However, if we can play a small part in Brandon’s development on that pathway, we are more than happy to do so. In the meantime, I’m extremely excited to see what Brandon will add to the Quins jersey.”

The surname Huntley will be familiar to Quins players of the 1990s. Brandon’s dad Mike had a cultured boot and was a major thorn in the Quins’ side when he played for Pontycymmer, before moving to Gilfach Goch and finally Llanharan.

Welcome to Maesteg Harlequins Brandon. Enjoy the South Parade experience.
