Quasquicentennial Events

Yes, that is the word for an 125^th anniversary.

Several events have been planned and put these in your diary. Even better, attend them all.

Thursday October 17^th 2024 – An Evening With Rob Howley

There are few tickets left to see one of Welsh and British rugby’s real greats.

With 59 Welsh caps, Howley captained Wales on twenty-two occasions, fifteen of which were victories. He scored ten tries in the process.

A back-to-back Gallagher Premiership winner with our old adversaries Wasps. Additionally, who will forget Howley’s never-say-die try, to win the European Cup for the same club? It summed up Howley, not just a quality player but one with huge mental strength and a massive heart.

In his second stint in the Wales coaching set-up, Howley was also assistant coach of Canada.

The event will take place at the clubhouse with tickets priced t just £20, which includes a buffet.

The evening is also a fundraising event for Velindre our Hospital of Hope.

We look forward to seeing all those who have already purchased tickets and would love to welcome you, if you haven’t yet bought one of the few remaining for what will surely be a unique event.

Saturday November 2^nd 2024 – 125^th Anniversary Match versus Tondu

On November 4^th 1899 the first Maesteg Harlequins team ran out against Tonda A.

Just two days short of being played 125 years to the day, the opponents are the same the venue is different. Plus, of course, this is also a Championship fixture.

It would be fantastic to see as many Harlequins past, present and future at South Parade, to celebrate all the blood, sweat, tears and joy of 125 years of Maesteg Harlequins rugby; against our original opponent and old friends, Tondu.

Friday February 7^th 2025 – Reunion Night

It has to be said, we don’t see a host of former players often enough. Why not attend this event?

Meet up with old mates and remember the great times we have all had on and off the field.

This eve of Wales’ international with Italy would be an ideal way to kick-off the Six Nations weekend.

Saturday May 3^rd 2025 – 125^th Anniversary Match versus Glamorgan County

The illustrious Glamorgan County will pay their second visit to South Parade, to make up the third celebration match after the South Wales Invitation XV and Tondu.

Saturday May 10^th 2025 – Black Tie Dinner

This event has yet to be confirmed, but it promises to be a spectacular event… if you have a black tie!

End of May 2025 – Tour to Europe

Friday June 20^th 2025 – Golf Day at Maesteg Golf Club

This promises to be an excellent day of golf. In addition to this, there will be a Q&A with the popular Sean Holley back at the rugby club.

More events are ‘in the pipeline’ and as ever, anyone wishing to help the organisers by taking up a role, your support will be greatly appreciated.
