Next Match... The Empire State Building was struck eight times in just twenty-four minutes!

The Empire State Building was struck eight times in just twenty-four minutes!

To the Gnoll Quins travel again, 2019 scene of the club’s greatest individual result. We know the score and every historical reason why the Maesteg Quins win was both magnificent, unique and at the same time unbelievable.

The longer than anticipated visit of Neath to South Parade occurred three weeks back. In an absolutely enthralling encounter, the scintillating opening quarter is likely to be the most well executed and influential, in an individual result on the club’s record. It was the foundation stone upon which the coal black and blood reds secured their incredible second win in as many outings against the Welsh All Blacks.

The match at South Parade was Neath’s inaugural game in their sesquicentennial season. Given Neath’s paucity of playing opportunities, Maesteg Quins will also have the honour of opening Neath’s celebration season at the Gnoll too!

In the meantime, Neath have visited Gilfach Goch. The nuggety village club will return to league competition in WRU Two East Central and Gnoll giants compiled a fine 13-60 mid-week victory to blow the cobwebs away in scoring ten tries.

Maesteg Quins have continued their good form and hope to maintain it. As a unit, the team are combining well. Individually, while most are maintaining consistently high standards, others are excelling.

There are injury concerns, when are there not? Hopefully, most of these will be resolved by the time the weekend arrives.

As far as the match is concerned there is something bigger at stake. After two matches, Maesteg Quins head the three team Group 3 of the WRU Championship Cup.

Myth Buster 1:        Popular belief has it that Albert Einstein failed maths when at school

The true fact is, Einstein may have been dyslexic, but he was a mathematical genius from an early age.

Mathematically, Einstein may be needed to explain several outcomes that come into consideration, as the group enters its final three matches. For Tata Steel, two bonus point wins and Saturday’s result going in their favour, could give them an opportunity to snatch top spot.

From their last two fixtures, Neath can add ten points to their table tally, taking them to a final total of fifteen. With nine points in the bag, Maesteg Quins need to garner seven from their remaining two fixtures.

For all the talk of gleaning bonus points, denying bonus points; the way to end the matter at the earliest opportunity, would be to win at the Gnoll this weekend. The ultimate objective, at any time, for any team, in any sport – win, win the next game.

Myth Buster 2:        Lighting does strike in the same place twice.

The truth is lightning can absolutely strike in the same spot twice and it’s not even all that rare to happen. The Empire State Building is hit by lightening up to twenty-five times a year. On one occasion it was struck eight times in just twenty-four minutes.

Beating Neath at the Gnoll nearly two years ago was regarded as a ‘flash in the pan’ a ‘once in a lifetime’ event. The win at South Parade raised eyebrows and the Quins would love to disprove the lightening myth once again. Fingers crossed the coal black and blood reds can, like lightening, strike once again at the home of the Welsh All Blacks.

It has rightly been called a ‘must win’ game

Myth Buster 3:        Ivermectin is a cure for covid

Quite why sections of American society pour scorn over the world’s top scientists, rejecting the immunisation properties of the Pfizer and Astro-Zeneca vaccines; in favour of a bovine, ovine and swine deworming drug is incomprehensible.

However, Quins must remember to carry Entonox.

Fighting Irish First Up For Seconds

Saturday also sees the first scheduled Seconds game of the new ‘season’.

For those unable to make it over to Neath, you still have an ideal opportunity to cheer the boys on when they play Aberafan Green Stars at South Parade.

A Seconds in any club is just as important as the Firsts and hopefully there’ll be a tremendous turn-out to take the field against the ‘Fighting Irish.’

Kick-off at South Parade 14:30hrs.
