THROW-BACK: SCORING THROUGH THE DECADES

Being as there is no rugby today, just thought a trip down memory lane would be something to do.

Not many games have been played on February 15th as far as records show.

For those who played, perhaps they may remember the nil-all draw against Cymer at Llangynwyd on February 15th 1954.

Matches against Cymer were rarely high scoring affairs. Of the nine matches currently on record the overall scoring from both sides amounted to 39 points. That averages just over four points a game!

Rugby of course was different then. Awet rugby ball was like trying to pass a breeze block. Nine points in a game was brilliant and Cymer did just that to the Quins in 1957 (9-3).

The biggest Quins win was 3-0, which they achieved three times. There were five draws: three scoreless, one 3-3 and a veritable scoring feast with a 6-6 stalemate.

Fast forward a few decades to the corresponding week last season. Owen Howe scored twenty-one points on his own. Slotting seven penalties to secure an 11-21 win away to Bedlinog and become the first Quins player to kick seven penalties in a match.
