The 'Prince of Centres' Bleddyn Williams once said of rugby retirement: "For a former player, just seeing a rugby ball is like a feast to a starving man."
For the players, starved of rugby for sixteen long, laborious months, joy is on the horizon as the inaugural Llynfi Valley Cup kicks-off on Thursday, June 17th at South Parade.
The 10 a-side tournament is for the players only, as spectators are not permitted.
Three rounds of fixtures will be played at South Parade [Thursday 17th June], Llynfi Road [Thursday 24th June] and Nantyffyllon [Thursday July 1st] with the ‘Finals Day’ taking place at Maesteg Celtic [Saturday July 3rd].
Games will be 15 minutes each way with a variation of other rules.
For the South Parade fixtures the Quins squad is as follows [alphabetical order]:
Starting X
Francis Lewis
Huntley Brandon
Jones Cameron
Jones Ryan
McGuckin Tadgh
Morgan-Grant Harry
Smith Nathan
Thomas Cameron
Tutt Lewis
Williams Jakob
Replacements
Evans Aled
Evans Geraint
Evans Lewis
Griffiths Alex
Ryan Lovett
Josh Sands
With a lot more space, this will be an ideal opportunity for the fleet of foot to show their paces. While it will be wonderful to see all our players back on the field, it will be an exciting opportunity for the coaches to run the rule over the new recruits such as Brandon Huntley, Ryan Jones, Harry Morgan-Grant, Lewis Evans and Josh Sands. Great things have been said about them all.
Enjoy yourselves everyone and good luck to all the teams.
