RESUMPTION OF RUGBY - WRU PLANS

The following is the WRUs vision as to  where we currently are with regard to the return of training and games. Still a fair way away from resumption but rest assured behind the scenes everything possible is being done to ensure everything is ready and safe for when grassroots rugby gets the go ahead.

Notes from a WRU update are posted below -

  • The Welsh Rugby Season will NOT start back in September.
  • The aim at present is to start back possibly in October, if not December, or even into January 2021.
  • Forget about what the English, Scottish, or Irish Unions are planning. The WRU are guided by Public Health Wales and the Welsh Government.
  • When the season starts back it will NOT be a 30 plus week season. The WRU will look to create fixtures on a local basis in line with relevant travel restrictions at that time. They will also look to align the start with the re-opening of club houses, but this may not be possible.
  • The Professional game is likely to start back before the Community game.

Community Game

  • The Community Game will be phased in, starting with RED through to GREEN again based on what restrictions are in place by Public Health Wales, and the Welsh Government at that period.
  • We are currently in the RED phase and are likely to stay in that phase for several weeks to come.
  • This means currently NO Group training, only people from 2 Households can train together outside, observing social distancing rules.
  • NO SHARING of equipment, NO INDOOR training facilities.
  • All players must check for symptoms of Covid 19 before training. Any player displaying symptoms must not train and will inform his or her Club. He or she must then self-isolate as per the current guidelines at that time. The Club must ensure the above protocols are followed.
  • TRACK and TRACE will then commence in relation to anyone that player as had close contact with.

Resumption of Group Training

When Group Training does resume it will consist of,

  • Small Groups (5 – 10), Zero Contact, NO sharing of Equipment, NO indoor facilities, NO sharing water or other drinks, NO Group or Shared travel to or from Training, and NO hanging around after training.
  •  Get to training, get the session done and go home.

Next Steps

  • Group Training with contact.
  • Games with NO spectators.
  • Full normal game.

There will be strict guidelines on training in terms of who can attend and what rules apply. This will be outlined as we move forward.

Any CLUB seen not to be adhering to the guidelines can and will be liable to LEGAL ACTION.

Maesteg Harlequins RFC urge everybody associated with our club to continue to follow the Welsh government guide lines. Our continued thanks go out to the NHS and our key workers who continue to do an amazing job.
