BIG DAY FOR BRACE

Maesteg Quins have a long history of providing referees to officiate MGDRU and WRU matches.

Dai Daniels, Hector Lewis, Ceri Morgan, Jan Raznick, Nigel Williams and Tony Williams to name a few. Now we have Richard Brace.

After joining the club in 1996-1997, in his eleven seasons at South Parade Brace made 244 appearances. He scored 390 points, his seasonal best being 124 in 1999-2000. In 2004-2005 he scored ten tries in a season.

He was part of four league title winning sides, a Silver Ball, President’s Cup and Hancocks Trophy winner. It was his last-ditch tackle on the flying Vardre winger in the inaugural Silver Ball win that prevented a certain match winning score.

An awful arm break against Gorseinon, which required an extended hospital stay in 2007 led to Richard immediately taking up the whistle.

Quickly establishing himself as an extremely competent match official, Brace’s fitness is one of his greatest attributes. Couple this with his cool-headed reasoning under pressure and for these reasons Richard will be playing a major part in an annual WRU showpiece event.

The quiet and unassuming Brace has been chosen to referee the 2019 WRU Plate Final between Brecon and Bonymaen at the Principality Stadium. The WRU couldn’t have made a better choice.

Everyone at the club are extremely proud of Richard and wish him every success.

Have a wonderful day to remember.
