MATCH PREVIEW: QUINS WELCOME NEWBRIDGE

Within the walls of Newbridge RFCs Welfare Ground clubhouse, there is the familiar sight of South Parade. The team in the photograph standing outside the changing rooms is Newbridge United.

A regular fixture in the Quins season for many years [a simple trip 'over the top to Nelson and the Queen of Hearts] the reciprocal agreement included the Four Sevens Country Club in Llangynwyd.

Numerous members of the now defunct United attend Newbridge matches and can be seen reminising at the bar most Saturdays. Yet after years of travelling to Llynfi Road when arriving at Maesteg, this will be the first visit by a Newbridge RFC team to South Parade.

Lying in the second and third relegation spots of an enhanced drop zone for 2018-2019, both clubs would see a win probably lift them out of the danger area.

Newbridge are a point ahead of the Quins. Quins have a number of games in hand over the 'Bridge'. Yet games in hand mean nothing if they are not capitalised upon.

Having won at the Welfare Ground on a balmy last Saturday of September, at the end of the week when they changed coaches, the return fixture will be played out in the deprths of January cold with Newbridge settled into their new coaches philosophy.

A big team, Newbridge have improved after their poor start to the season, picking up some good wins in the last few months. Quins flattered to deceive after a great comeback win over UWIC, only to go down with a whimper away to Beddau. The hosts will be further fired up by another off colour performance in the Cup.

Nine changes have been made from the last outing and hopefully these will be catalyst to getting the results and performances back on track, before another stop / start period ensues for the Six Nations. It will be nothing less than enthralling for all involved with the two clubs and the epitome of what league rugby is about.

This is a match everyone is looking forward to.

The 2nd XV are due to play away to Llantrisant. This promises to be another exciting encounter, moving out of the immediate area for a rare trip east.
