Maesteg Quins II 18 – 9 Bridgend Sports II
Enoch Lewis Cup Round One
It was a pleasing Enoch Lewis Cup first round win for the Quins seconds at the Welfare Park. Aided by uber veteran No. 8 Peter Jenkins, veteran scrum-half Darren Phelps opened the scoring with a try.
Sports cut the deficit with a penalty to conclude the first-half scoring.
Phelps touched down for a second time and Cory Harris converted. Sports came back to within three points, kicking two further penalties. They were in the ascendancy but a superb defensive effort from Josh Mines was a key feature in the victory, even denying the Bridgend side after they had crossed the line.
Quins secured the win late on with Cory Harris and Gareth Evans three pointers.
